Island Boys Being a soccer team on an Island quite often we had to fly to another island or mainland to play in the playoff games. We were not the best out there but had a solid team of college age boys that usually placed in the top four teams in the region. The plane that was available and most importantly, affordable for our charter was a very old 1940’s Boeing Stratoliner, it was an old beast and we felt that sometimes it would hardly make it off of the ground as it shook while rolling down the runway, but it always got us there and back. We loaded our gear in the cargo hold and headed onto the plane dressed in our uniforms, we had roughly a 150 mile flight and were finally airborne, there was always a lot of grab-ass going on with the guys being cooped up in the small plane.
